NORTHAMPTONSHIRE ALLIANCE CBS will continue to flourish following a modernisation of its structure and an overhaul of its committee, officials say.
Following notices in this paper calling for an EGM, which took place earlier this month, a number of fanciers have agreed to hold office to complete the club’s first full committee in more than seven years.
In addition, changes have been implemented to reduce the number of meetings per year, on members’ advice.
“The club was struggling with lack of interest and many members attending the monthly meetings,” said show secretary Chris Swain.
“As this is a county CBS, in some cases fanciers have to travel a 35-mile round trip, so attendance suffered.
“But thanks to coverage in Cage & Aviary Birds we had a good EGM attendance, which resulted in the position of chairman, secretary and three committee members being voted in to enable the society to continue running.”
New to the committee are Stan Goosey, who has stepped in as chairman; Alice Sidney takes on the role of secretary, and Sandra Muggleton and Noel Sidney join as committee members.
Treasurer Mike Vokes and Mr Swain remain in their existing posts, and Graham Smith continues as an existing committee member. Mr Vokes said: “The EGM was called for by Chris and I as we weren’t prepared as individuals to carry on the club with nobody behind us. Without the support we received at the EGM, the club would have disbanded forthwith. Now, with more people on board, we can hopefully start to modernise the club for the better.”
Moving forward, meetings have been reduced to four a year and will be held at the usual venue: Kettering Athletic Club, Kettering.
Mr Swain added: “This allows those members from a distance more time between meetings to ease commitment on their busy schedules while still being committed to our club.”
Northamptonshire Alliance CBS has been in existence for more than six years, having been an amalgamation of Northampton, Wellingborough, Kettering and Corby clubs.
Meetings are held on the first Wednesday of the following months: June, September and November 2017, and February 2018.
