FOLLOWING AN ABSENCE of five years, a speaker seminar is set to return to the International Gloster Breeders Association’s (IGBA) October open show.

Traditionally, a seminar has been held at every IGBA show since its inaugural event in 1986, but this came to an end in 2013. At a recent AGM, there was support to bring back the seminar.

The IGBA has since secured the services of successful international breeders Ludo Lenaers and Marnix D’Hont from Belgium.

IGBA publicity officer, Ian Wright, said: “Both have won the IGBA show in recent years: Ludo in 2015 and 2016 and Marnix in 2014. Many fanciers will be interested to hear how they keep and breed Glosters, along with their success in Belgium.”

The seminar will be held on October 20 at 1pm, while the show judging is being carried out.

Ian Allison, IGBA club secretary, added: “This is a great opportunity to ask two top international breeders for any advice you may seek and hear their opinions on the canary fancy.”

Marnix D’Hont told Cage & Aviary Birds that the duo will give a general talk, but are open to questions and are happy to focus on specific areas of Gloster breeding.

He said: “I plan to discuss breeding Glosters, which means pairing, eggfood, feeder quality, colours etc, but it depends what people are interested in.

“Myself and Ludo are involved with the IGBA show every year, which means showing birds, meeting old and new friends and having a lot of fun! It is a great honour to be asked to be a seminar speaker.”

This year’s judges are Bert Munneke (from the Netherlands), Eddie Wells, Martin Fairfield, and Sam & Sue Guy, who won best in show at last year’s open show.
