COM HAS CANCELLED the January 2021 World Show in Portugal due to the pandemic, but has plans for a late 2021 show in Turkey – less than eight weeks before Spain’s 2022 World Show.
As agreed with the Turkish federation TKKF, COM’s World Show in Istanbul scheduled for January 2022 has been moved forward to November 28 until December 5, 2021.
“This is to allow for the organisation of the 2022 World Show in Valencia in January 2022,” said COM president Carlos Ramoa.
A statement released by Mr Ramoa on November 2 read: “We will also study the possibility of accepting birds ringed with 2020 rings in certain sections and classes, with the objective of limiting the impact of the absence of a 2021 World Show in January.”
He continued: “We kindly thank the Turkish federation TKKF and its managers for their behaviour and understanding in this process.”
COM-UK conveyor Gary Mann told Cage & Aviary Birds that COM-UK will wait until DEFRA finalises regulations once the UK is out of the EU before making a decision on whether to attend the Istanbul event. He said: “Valencia in January 2022 is already being planned for, but Turkey was a bit of a curveball and will have to be discussed by the COM-UK committee.”
Previously, COM had announced that the decision on whether the January 2021 World Show would go ahead would be reviewed on December 15, 2020, when the entries were due to close. However, earlier this month COM analysed the Covid situation in Portugal and throughout Europe and put a stop to the event.
The Portuguese organising committee has guaranteed that any payments received by breeders, national COM organisations and private operators will be returned.
COM says it will start planning the Turkish World Show in the coming months.
