THE CANARY SECTION at this year’s Cage & Aviary Birds Christmas Sale and Show has just got bigger – we bring you the exclusive news that the British Colour Canary Club (BCCC) is confirmed to host an open show.

On November 29, our event at Lockmeadow Hall, Maidstone, will now present shows in the exhibition section for Borders, coloured, Norwich and old & rare canaries, zebra and Bengalese finches, as well as a strong British bird section.

The BCCC show will be open to any exhibitor and expects to see between 50-100 birds benched.

BCCC secretary Ivan Chapman said: “A benefit of our show being at Maidstone among the other canary sections, is that many Border and Norwich fanciers also belong to our club. So those fanciers who will be exhibiting their Norwich and Borders can also look to enter their coloured canaries too.”

If the canary section is a success, the BCCC said Maidstone could become a permanent home for its annual championship show, usually held in Feltham, which is known to receive up to 250 entries.

“This year will be a trial run for the BCCC and if successful we will look to make it a permanent fixture,” said Mr Chapman.

Show and sale manager Jon Ashby said C&AB’s Maidstone event remains a “no brainer” for clubs or societies seeking a low-cost show. He explained: “There is no hall booking fee for starters. This is already picked up by C&AB. There is lots of room at our brilliant venue and so adding more clubs and societies’ shows is no issue. This will simply result in further overall attendee numbers, which is of course great for all of the trade stands and fancier table sellers who will be in attendance.”
