TWO YORKSHIRE BUDGERIGAR clubs are the first to team up to benefit from a heavily discounted seed deal from Haith’s – and it’s available for other clubs too.

York BS together with its main area society Yorkshire BS, has entered into an agreement with Haith’s for its “Clubman” offering, which launched at the Budgerigar Society Club Show in 2018.

The idea is to encourage CBS members to club together and order their bird seed on a bulk basis to get Haith’s goods at a more affordable price.

There are two main parts to Haith’s club initiative: 1. Special collection prices (from Haith’s, Grimsby); and, 2. UK “Clubman” pallet deal prices for a minimum of 10 bags/200kg. These prices are not available online.

“Orders over 10 bags/200kg can be delivered direct on a single pallet, which means there are economies of scale in the production process and, therefore, potential savings, which we (Haith’s) can then pass on to birdkeepers,” explained Simon King, Haith’s associate director.

He continued: “Haith’s feel this is one of the best ways we can put something back into the hobby. We hope our agreement with the York clubs will help them boost their membership by extending the savings to add value to their own membership proposition.”

Haith’s stress that this isn’t an opportunity to re-sell its seed. “It’s an opportunity for Haith’s and CBS members who care about high-quality seed to work more closely together and encourage more enthusiasts to join their local CBS,” Mr King said.

York BS and Yorkshire BS signed up to the “Clubman” deal last month and members have already received their first pallet.

Graham Turner, show secretary for York BS and a general council member for Yorkshire BS, praised the significant saving for members. He said: “There are plenty of people in the Yorkshire area that keep birds, so the impressive seed discount we now have with Haith’s is a good incentive for anyone to join either club.”
