THE LIZARD CANARY Association (LCA) held a successful extraordinary general meeting (EGM) on March 10 to elect new officials and non-post-holding council members.

The LCA has had a difficult year following the resignation of John Martin as chairman in September 2018 and the cancellation of the LCA Classic show, which is usually held in November.

Owing to the president and acting chairman Stan Bolton stepping down, as well as  the secretary David Allen leaving to focus on blue Lizard canaries, it was vital that the club replaced key officials to establish a new LCA council in order for the association to continue.

At the EGM, Jeremy Goacher stepped forward as LCA chairman and outlined his visions for the association. He also introduced the new officials, who are as follows: John Martin as president (ex-chairman, who was re-elected in recognition of his hard work over the past 10 years); Huw Evans as vice chairman and technical advisor; former treasurer John Record as secretary; and Ian Adcock as trophy steward and communications officer. Also, Wayne Elton, Tony Horton and Daniel Richmond were appointed as non-post-holding council members.

Mr Goacher said: “I would like to extend thanks to all the former LCA officials for all their sterling work over the past few challenging years. It hasn’t been an easy time as the threats to the Lizard continue to manifest themselves.”

The new council intends to conserve the traditional characteristics of the Lizard canary, as envisaged by the founders of the LCA in 1945. There are also plans to stage the LCA Classic in 2019 on the first Sunday of November, as usual.

Recommendations from various initiatives will be presented to the members at the LCA’s AGM in November. A council meeting was held immediately after the EGM and a second meeting has been planned for May.

Mr Bolton, outgoing president and acting chairman, said: “I’m very pleased that the LCA now has a full council of management and I wish them the very best of luck for the future.”

There will be information on the LCA’s EGM in the April 10 issue.
