MAIDSTONE & SECAS EXHIBITORS were treated to a free bird photo session at last month’s London & South East Bird Show & Sale.
Organised by Maidstone & SECAS together with Cage & Aviary Birds, the combined open show and sales event held on November 26 in Kent, invited professional bird photographer Luke Stephenson to attend.
A special photography tent was set up alongside Maidstone & SECAS’s open show and those exhibitors who participated will receive a free printed photograph and a digital copy of their exhibit(s), courtesy of Mr Stephenson.
London-based Mr Stephenson, 34, is building up a collection of images for the second volume to his sold-out 2015 book An Incomplete Dictionary of Show Birds, and photographs taken at the event will be considered.
He told C&AB: “I am looking to capture as many different species and shows are the best place to see a large number of birds in one place. If I can be of service to other clubs, it not only helps me but hopefully gives something back to the hobby.”
Fred Wright, organiser of the sales section, said: “It is good to have a new and enthusiastic specialist bird photographer on board, not only for C&AB but for the whole of the exhibition fancy.
“Luke’s photographs are consistently improving – he gets out to the shows and birdrooms, so it’s like a breath of fresh air for our hobby.”
Entry in the open show totalled 260 birds of most varieties of canary, along with budgerigars, foreign and British. The Gloster section secured the most entries, followed by Norwich and British.
Sponsors Copdock Mill, manufacturer of cage and aviary mixes, launched its new SkyGold range at the event. Andy Morgan, its marketing and business development manager, said: “Our new SkyGold brand was well received, and with the knowledge that the mixes were the same great quality as before smoothed the transition to this new all-encompassing brand. I would like to thank Fred Wright personally and professionally for a well-run show.”
