A GROUP OF dedicated fanciers have launched a new specialist Fife canary club and show in Scotland to “fill a gap in the area” during November.
The Scottish Fife Fancy Canary Club (SFFCC) was formed in February and will hold its first show in West Lothian on November 2.
SFFCC secretary Ryan Wood said: “November sees the majority of must-visit Fife canary shows in the UK, Midlands, North of England and North Wales, which our Scottish members support year in year out. But Scotland lacks its own top-class Fife fancy show in November. While this date does clash with another Fife show in southern England, they are hundreds of miles apart.”
Three top-class judges are engaged for the 2019 show: K. & S. Roberts from Wales and Matt Eld from England. The SFFCC has already attracted a solid base of members from Scottish studs, put a committee in place and plans to hold monthly meetings after the first show, where it is hoping to achieve an entry of 500-600 birds.
To encourage fanciers to support other local shows, the club will be running free transport for anyone who wants to exhibit at the Markinch OS Cage Bird Section show the following day. Mr Wood explained: “We feel the right thing to do is to offer exhibitors the chance to go home after a long day and recharge, rather than drive another hour or so to enter birds the next day.”
