Does your bird feature in the new stamp collection? Let us know:

A NEW EXHIBITION-BIRD stamp collection featuring the work of British photographer Luke Stephenson is available to buy from next week.

Titled Show Birds, the six-stamp set showcases exhibition birds that were photographed during 2006-2019. Readers may recognise the photographer: Luke Stephenson attended numerous open shows between 2017-2019, including the Cage & Aviary Birds Show & Sale at Maidstone and Eastern Federation of British Bird Fanciers, where he offered exhibitors a free bird photo session. Many of these photographs have been printed in this paper.

Show Birds, presented by the Isle of Man (IOM) Post Office and designed by Emma Cooke of EJC Design, will be issued on February 9 and features a Fife canary, Gouldian finch, budgerigar, redpoll hybrid, paradise tanager and diamond sparrow.

London-based Mr Stephenson told C&AB it was a great honour to have his work displayed on stamps. He said: “I was contacted by the IOM Post Office to see if I would be interested in working with them to create a set of stamps. It’s not every day that you get the opportunity to make a royal stamp!

“We made the selection of birds to give a range of species and a good variety of background colours.”

Maxine Cannon, general manager of IOM Stamps & Coins, said: “The stamps give a glimpse into the world of show birds and Luke’s stunning photographs meticulously capture the beauty of these charming creatures.”

Mr Stephenson has published three books to date, including his sold-out 2015 book An Incomplete Dictionary of Show Birds. A second volume has been delayed due to the pandemic.

The Show Birds collection is available as a set and sheet set, presentation pack and first-day cover. Prices start from £8.28. For more information or to buy, click here.
