TICKET SALES FOR a multi-club online raffle dubbed a “Christmas Spectacular” have just passed the 2,000 mark, as demand has soared in just four weeks of going live.

The online 12-club affair, where each club puts forward one or more prizes to be raffled, is the brainchild of experts behind the ever-growing Mid Essex BS annual show raffle. Due to the current pandemic, Mid Essex BS were unable to hold their open show and show raffle in September, so the team turned their attention to a multi-club online raffle.

Tickets are £1 each, and all the proceeds from each club’s contribution go back to that club, less credit-card fees and delivery costs. The raffle will be broadcast and drawn live on December 6 via the Mid Essex BS Facebook page.

“Once again the admission of birds is proving extremely popular,” said the club’s sponsorship secretary Graham Paine. “If we can beat last year’s Mid Essex BS raffle total in two or three weeks less, factoring in that there’s no show, that would be amazing!”

The exceptional raffle contribution of 22 budgerigars include a Tuplin, Edwards & Reaney pair to raise funds for City of Lincoln B&FBA. Other items in the raffle range from product hampers courtesy of SAM1 Bird Products and Bird Wise, a metal stock cage from AviFabs, and 100kg of seed from Versele-Laga and Countrywide Seed (view the full raffle list at: https://budgieraffle.co.uk).

By day 12 of going live, the Christmas Spectacular raffle-ticket sales were more than double compared to the 2019 raffle.

Ricky Anderson, Mid Essex BS promotional secretary, said the raffle has started strong: “2,145 sales so far! I’d like to exceed last’s year’s total, so 7,000-plus would be nice. We’ve had a strong start and the prizes are quality, so I’m optimistic we can reach that goal.”
